In both Israel and the United States, clear majorities of both nations' Jewish communities want a ceasefire / hostage deal. But while most of us want the war in Gaza to end, too often it’s pro-war voices that are grabbing the megaphone.
Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that current operations have “nothing to do with legitimate war goals.” This is now a “private political war,” and “its immediate result is the transformation of Gaza into a humanitarian disaster.”
Retired Israeli Major General Yair Golan said last week that the war is "not an effort to release hostages, because that was possible long ago in a comprehensive deal […] It’s also not a campaign to topple Hamas, because that was possible long ago by starting to build a political alternative.”
Enough. Enough of the anguish, suffering and death.
Friends: Today, we’re asking all our supporters to call their Members of Congress and leave a clear message: Our Jewish and pro-Israel community opposes the continuation of the war in Gaza.

Friends: As we said earlier this month, this war threatens to become a defining moral failure of our time – a pain that will reverberate through the Israeli, Palestinian and Jewish people for generations.
Netanyahu's escalation promises only more death and agony for Israeli soldiers, the remaining hostages and their families, and innocent Palestinian civilians.
Meanwhile, Israel now faces a long-feared “diplomatic tsunami” as key Western allies – including Canada, the UK, France and even Germany – break with Israel over what one diplomat described as Netanyahu’s “complete madness.”
And Netanyahu and his far-right coalition can expect further action from international courts as things grow worse. As Yair Golan noted, Netanyahu is dragging Israel into becoming, “a pariah state.”
Polls show the overwhelming majority of Israelis and Jewish Americans want a deal that ends the war and brings all the hostages home – and we have to make sure our representatives in Congress understand that.
We have to speak out for our values. We have to end this war.
