John, A couple weeks ago, at a discussion about democracy, someone asked me how to fight off the fatigue of the last election and keep pushing forward. My answer? The stakes are just too damn high. To defend our democracy, you’ve got to swing at everything and hit it back. Look, we’re in a bad place right now — but this is not a place we have to stay. Sure, our president and his backers don’t respect the Constitution. But there are far more of us who do. Every great movement in our country has had great leaders. But more importantly, they’ve also had the support of galvanized, focused American people. That’s you, and that’s the millions more who care about defending our democracy. So how do you fight fatigue? You fight it with action. At the NDRC, with your support, we will continue taking action — to make our government respond to the will of the people, to end gerrymandering, and to deliver fair maps that give Americans a fair chance to hold Republican extremists accountable. Right now, will you give a contribution of $30 or more to power more progress in this fight?
The thing that Trump and Republicans want most is for us to give up and hand them our country to do whatever they want. But I know that you won’t give up, and neither will I. We are still in control of our own destiny. We are the stewards of our democracy. And we have it in our power to shape our country’s future. When the far right tries to contort electoral maps to sculpt an electorate that’s friendlier to their partisan pursuit of power, it’s on us to push back in the name of fairness. When they try to pass a bill — the SAVE Act — that could disenfranchise millions of Americans, it’s on us to call out their agenda and fight for voting rights with everything we’ve got. And when the voters head back to the polls, it’s on us to champion our endorsed Democracy Defenders who will help right the ship and minimize the damage. Thanks for being part of this fight with us, Eric H. Holder, Jr.
