But the fight for cleaner transportation isn't over
([link removed])
Hi Friend,
Last week, the Senate voted, on behalf of the oil industry, to directly undermine the authority of California and other states to set their own rules—specifically, rules that reduce harmful transportation pollution and accelerate the transition to electric vehicles.
Make no mistake: the reach of this illegal scheme goes far beyond the borders of California. This is a much broader attack on states’ rights, particularly the right to set their own vehicle emissions standards—an attack that will lead to dirtier air, higher prices at the pump, and more health problems—especially in low-income and historically disadvantaged communities.
While this isn’t the outcome we hoped for, it means that the work we’re doing to support ambitious action in the states is more important than ever.
That’s why we recently helped launch the Clean RIDES Network ([link removed])—a network of over 100 labor, climate, and health organizations working to promote cleaner transit options that curb harmful air pollution, cut costs and congestion for commuters, and connect our communities.
As we strategize with network partners on next steps, we’re also assessing if the resources we have right now will be enough to scale up the state-level policies we know will make an impact as we fight back against this attack. Can you chip in $5, $10, or more today to supercharge this critical work to advance cleaner and more affordable transportation options? ([link removed])
MAKE A GIFT ([link removed])
We may be facing an uphill battle against a Republican majority in Congress that’s determined to derail climate and clean energy progress, but Evergreen and the Clean RIDES Network are ready to meet the moment with bold solutions and unrelenting advocacy.
Our strategy is clear:
Maximize the impact of recent transportation wins in states like Minnesota, New York, and Pennsylvania, which will create the blueprint to improve transportation across the country.
Ensure state leaders invest in expanding transportation options, which could save the average American household $1,678 per year and eliminate an additional 2.26 gigatons of transportation emissions by 2050 (equivalent to the pollution of nearly 600 coal-fired power plants).
Pair these investments with important reforms to prioritize transparency, fiscal responsibility, and pollution reduction in transportation projects.
Together with the Clean RIDES Network, we can supercharge state action on combatting climate pollution—even (and especially) when it’s clear that our federal government won’t act. And by chipping in today, you’ll make a major impact on our ability to see the coalition’s priorities through.
Your support is critical to our success, friend. Will you make a gift today to support our work to advance clean transportation in the states? ([link removed])
