Friends ,

When people talk about the path to building lasting Democratic power in the South, Mississippi isn’t always the first state they name. But it should be.

At Groundwork Project, we know that long-term political transformation means investing early, often, and locally. And right now, there’s a bright spot in Mississippi we can’t afford to ignore.

On June 3, voters in Gulfport — the second largest city in the state — will elect a new mayor. State Rep. Sonya Williams-Barnes is running a strong campaign to flip the seat from red to blue. But this isn’t just a race about party labels. It’s about securing the kind of leadership Gulfport deserves.

Sonya has already delivered for Gulfport during her time in the state house, securing infrastructure investments, fixing broken systems, and making sure public schools received a share of state lottery revenue. She’s running for mayor to do even more — to solve the city’s water billing crisis, streamline services, and fight for safe, thriving neighborhoods.

But this is shaping up to be a super tight race, and national Republicans are taking notice. That’s why we need your help:

Can you pitch in to support Sonya and power a strong local win in Mississippi? [[link removed]]
