In case you missed it, John:
Trump is directly protecting violent officers from facing any accountability.
His executive order, Strengthening and Unleashing America’s Law Enforcement to Pursue Criminals and Protect Innocent Citizens, gives police officers even more protection—and he wants us to pay for it.
This executive order essentially extends the concept of qualified immunity to the criminal sphere. But it calls for much more than that:

Encourages return to stop-and-frisk, gang enforcement, and preemptive arrests,
- Boosts funding, grants, and military-grade equipment (like 1033 program gear) to police departments,
-
Promotes AI surveillance and predictive policing tools,
-
Revokes DOJ consent decree powers unless approved at the highest level,
-
Allows the DOJ to override local jurisdictions deemed “unsafe,” and,
-
Threatens to withhold federal funding from cities that reduce police budgets or limit cooperation with federal law enforcement.
...not to mention the horrifying call to 'unleash the police.'
In essence, Trump and the rest of his far-right regime think that harsher punishments and enforcement, sending more money to the police, and giving them as much unchecked power as possible is how to prevent crime. We know that’s not true. Law and order doesn’t work.
What does work? Investing in our communities, community violence intervention programs, and allowing us to take care of one another works. Abolition works.
As an organization we’ve been fighting back against qualified immunity and ending 1033 for years, and we’re not going to take Trump expanding it. Can you donate anything you can right now to help us fight back?
The police as they exist now ALREADY abuse their power. We’ve seen how Black and Brown unarmed and peaceful protestors are met with the full military might of the police. We’ve seen how time and time again white police officers can murder unarmed Black folks.
And Trump wants to give them even more protection, power to abuse, legal backing, and money. This is the exact opposite of the liberation we need.
We know how the far-right is going to use this far-reaching and vaguely-worded executive order. They’re going to twist it and use it however they need to make sure the police continue to get away with killing Black people.
If we don’t fight back, Trump’s blueprint will become the norm. That’s why we’re organizing, resisting, and demanding justice. But we can’t do it without you.
