Hi there, it’s Yvette.

Growing up as the daughter of two Jamaican immigrants, I watched on as my parents made a successful living for themselves and my family, right here in the heart of Brooklyn.

And when my mom, Dr. Una S. T. Clarke, decided she wanted to take her fight for her community further and run for a seat on the New York City Council, I was right alongside her as her campaign manager. She won and became the first Caribbean-born woman elected to the body.

It wasn’t just history she made . In her 10 years on the council, she was a tireless advocate for the people of Brooklyn, sponsoring more than 300 pieces of legislation and successfully fighting to make things in New York better.

Public service is in my DNA. And when I had the chance to continue the work my mom had done on the council, I took it, using my time to fight poverty and uplift women.

I took that same mission with me when I was elected to Congress in 2006. And nearly 20 years later, my mission is still the same: be a champion for immigrants, women, workers, and people all across America.

But the job hasn’t gotten any easier, friend. Right-wing extremism has conquered the minds of my Republican colleagues, and they’re more focused on serving their leader, Donald Trump, than they are the American people.

Still, as Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, I’ve stood by my duty to defend families across the country. I’ve fought like hell against the dangerous and anti-Black agenda being pushed in Congress, just like my mother taught me to.

It’s time to meet the moment, stand up to Trump, and deliver on real, concrete legislation that will both protect Americans and help them prosper. If you’re with me and my mission, will you help me reach my end-of-month goal before May is over? [[link removed]]

I appreciate your support, there.

— Yvette
