![]() John, I want to tell you a story. In November 2022, just a few days after the good people of Pennsylvania elected me as their 48th Governor, it became clear that we would be the only state at that time to have a divided legislature. Democrats would soon hold a one-vote majority in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, while Republicans would hold a slim majority in the Pennsylvania Senate. Some believed this would lead to unprecedented political gridlock — a death sentence for the progress our Commonwealth desperately needed. But those predictions couldn’t have been further from the truth, John.
Over the last two years, my administration has brought Democrats and Republicans together to make a real difference in Pennsylvanians’ lives — differences you can see with your own two eyes in your community and your bank account. We’ve invested record amounts in public education and targeted those dollars to the schools that need them most. We’ve put $136 million back in the pockets of Pennsylvania families through the Child Care Tax Credit. We’ve slashed red tape to speed up permitting times and make our government work at the speed of business. And we’ve repaired more poor-condition bridges than any other state in the nation. Here in Pennsylvania, we don’t just talk about getting stuff done, John. We’ve put our money where our mouth is, putting points on the board for every community across the Commonwealth. But let me be blunt for a moment. There are extremists out there who don’t like what we’re doing. They’re furious that the values of common sense and unity have moved our Commonwealth forward. Instead, they want Pennsylvania to be defined by extremism and division — and they’re willing to spend millions to make it a reality.
