Not tired of winning in the states! Dear John,
I’m sure you’ve seen all of the good news coming out of our nation’s capital in the past few weeks. It’s truly remarkable, and the answer to so many prayers for so many years.
But that’s not all the good news. Today, I’m bringing you a round-up of several pro-family wins from the states. Indiana Protects Parental Rights
First up is Indiana, which passed House Bill 1412, a first-of-its-kind law aimed at protecting parental rights. The law ensures that parents will not be considered “abusive” by the state solely for raising their child in accordance with the child’s biological sex. It also reaffirms Indiana's legal tradition of recognizing parents’ fundamental rights to make decisions about their child’s upbringing.
The bill is 180 degrees apart from the recently signed Colorado bill we’ve shared with you about that likely empowers the state to take gender-confused children away from their parents on the basis of the parents using biologically accurate pronouns or calling their child by their birth name.
We want to express special congratulations to our allies at the Indiana Family Institute for their heroic efforts to get this bill introduced and passed. Texas Passes App Store Accountability Act (ASAA) Nebraska Passes Age Verification for Social Media A similar win comes from Nebraska, where LB 383 protects children online by prohibiting social media companies from allowing minors to open social media accounts unless they receive express parental consent, and ensures parents have proper access and control over their child’s account. We want to thank our state ally Nebraska Family Alliance for their collaboration with FPA on this law and their tireless work to then get it passed and enacted. Arizona Enacts Age Verification for Pornography
In one of the biggest surprises of this legislative session, Arizona Gov. Hobbs signed HB 2112 into law, making Arizona the 22nd state to protect minors from exposure to pornography through mandatory age-verification requirements. By requiring adults to verify their age, this legislation directly confronts the pornography industry’s deliberate strategy to hook young users while providing parents with a powerful tool to protect their children’s innocence. We want to thank Gov. Hobbs for signing this law, and our state ally Center for Arizona Policy for their tireless work to get this critical bill signed into law, especially since Gov. Hobbs had vetoed similar legislation last year.
