The D.C. Jewish Museum Shootings
Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, a young couple, were murdered as they walked out of a Young Diplomats event hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum a week ago. They had their whole lives ahead of them — they were set to be engaged in Jerusalem shortly.
As the suspect was taken into custody, he shouted: "Free, free Palestine.” It’s a chant we have heard time and again across America since 10/7 – on campus, in front of synagogues, online and in our communities. Last year was the worst for antisemitic incidents since ADL began tracking over four decades ago. That includes a 21% increase in violent assaults.
Yaron and Sarah deserved better. They deserved a future. Instead, they became victims of the oldest hatred. We owe it to their memory to ensure no more lives are lost to antisemitism. We owe it to every Jew to create a society where attending a Jewish event doesn't make you a target.

Speak Out Now
Dear readers: We are so grateful to the dedicated subscribers who are staying informed about how Jewish students, staff and faculty are coping with this challenging campus climate. Because nearly all colleges and universities have now completed their Spring semester, we will be reducing our publication schedule accordingly. ADL will release a new edition each Tuesday during the summer. However, due to national and Jewish holidays, this week's edition is on Wednesday and next week’s edition will be on Thursday.

Indiana. A

new report from Indiana University’s Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism reveals how anti-Israel campus groups — including Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) and Faculty for Justice in Palestine (FJP) — have built sophisticated online networks to spread radicalized content, coordinate protests and incite harassment of Jewish students. The report found a strong correlation between campuses with multiple anti-Israel groups and spikes in antisemitic incidents, especially after October 7.

Over 76,000 social media posts were analyzed, showing heavy use of emotionally charged images, glorification of terrorism and ties to extremist groups like the Palestinian Youth Movement and the PFLP, a U.S.-designated terrorist organization. A separate report by the antisemitism watchdog, the AMCHA Initiative, found that campuses with FJP chapters saw significantly higher rates of assaults and death threats against Jewish students and longer encampment protests.

Columbia. Columbia University has again been accused of
[link removed]
violating Jewish students' civil rights by failing to address widespread antisemitism on campus post-10/7. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services found the university in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, citing a hostile environment. While no new sanctions were imposed, Columbia is already facing $400 million in federal funding cuts and is currently negotiating with the government to resolve the issue. Acting President

Claire Shipman affirmed the university’s commitment to combating antisemitism while disagreeing with the HHS findings and detailing a series of actions on a “Combatting Antisemitism” web page, including enhanced security, new disciplinary procedures and mandatory anti-discrimination training.

George Washington. In the latest litigation sparked by the campus climate for Jewish students,

George Washington University is being sued in U.S. District Court over claims by a group of current and former students who say that the school did not stop pervasive antisemitic harassment after 10/7. The university’s initial response says it is reviewing the complaint and that “We condemn antisemitism in the strongest terms and have taken, and continue to take, robust action to support our Jewish and Israeli students and community.” The lawsuit calls for changes to the school’s policies, including adopting a definition of antisemitism and enforcing existing policies related to nondiscrimination “on an evenhanded basis.”

Australia. At the University of Sydney, a Jewish student faced an

organized protest during a campus assembly after speaking out against antisemitism and condemning Hamas. As student Kovi Rose addressed the room, roughly 200 attendees turned their backs on him in silent protest. The assembly, led by Students Against War, opposed the adoption of the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which many Australian universities have endorsed. While Rose and other Jewish students called for solidarity and protection against rising hate, some students shouted, “Israel has no right to exist,” and rejected the concept of Jewish self-determination. “We feel abandoned,” said Jack Mars of the Australasian Union of Jewish Students, noting the hypocrisy
in claiming the IHRA definition silences criticism. The University of Sydney later clarified that student organizations like the SRC operate independently and do not represent the university’s official stance.

Northwestern. Amid two ongoing federal investigations into alleged antisemitic harassment on campus, Northwestern University has received

a major anonymous donation to expand its Jewish Studies program and enhance Jewish life. The gift will support academic offerings on Jewish history, philosophy, literature and culture, while also funding campus-wide programming through Northwestern Hillel. As Northwestern President

Michael Schill said, “Recent events in our world highlight the urgent need for more education about Judaism and the experiences of Jewish people… this gift will help ensure that is possible.” The university emphasized that the funding will serve both Jewish and non-Jewish students by fostering inclusive learning and a sense of belonging.

2. 🏆 Campus Champions
Leading By Example. Columbia University student Eden Yadegar, president of Students Supporting Israel, has emerged as a

powerful voice against antisemitism in the wake of October 7. Drawn to Columbia for its diversity, Yadegar’s college experience sadly shifted as she needed to organize vigils, protests and events amidst rising antisemitism on campus. Her activism has taken her beyond the gates of Morningside Heights to testify before Congress and meet with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. Despite facing harassment and being doxxed, Yadegar remains undeterred. “I don’t know what that vehicle will be in five years or in 15 years,” she said, “but what I do know for certain — and it might be one of the only things that I know for sure — that I will be doing, is something
that I see as trying to make the world better.”

What Jewish Students Want. In a recent
[link removed]
eJewishPhilanthropy op-ed, Jewish students shared that the worst form of antisemitism on campus isn’t always loud — it’s the quiet exclusion, academic bias and social isolation. At schools like Harvard, surveys and interviews reveal that Jewish students are routinely hiding their identities, left out of social groups and even penalized academically for their views. Professors dismiss personal experiences as “too political,” roommates make antisemitic remarks without consequence and administrators often offer sympathy only in private. Students don’t want special treatment, they just want to exist on campus without fear. But until university culture
changes from the classroom to the dorm room, that basic dignity remains out of reach.

Freedom Flapjacks. Longtime residents of Kibbutz Kfar Aza, Keith and Aviva Siegel, were kidnapped by Hamas on 10/7. Aviva was released a month later while Keith was freed after 484 days. Every Shabbat pre-10/7, the Siegels' Shabbat table would be filled with pancakes, inspired by Keith’s late mother’s pancake recipe. Last week, 12 Chairs Cafe in New York City hosted a

pop-up pancake event, drawing over 1,200 attendees and raising $14,660 to support the remaining 58 hostages in Gaza. The Siegels, now in the U.S., are advocating for renewed efforts to secure their release, urging both President Trump and Israeli leaders to act swiftly.

Dolphin Dialogue. A groundbreaking collaboration between Tel Aviv University and the Jeremy Coller Foundation is

making waves in the world of science — and the dolphin pod. This year’s $100,000 Coller-Dolittle Prize for Two-way Inter-species Communication was awarded to Laela Sayigh and her U.S.-based research team for decoding key dolphin whistles that signal alarm or unexpected events. Using non-invasive tech like hydrophones and suction-cup acoustic tags, the team gathered four decades of data near Sarasota, Florida. The prize,

launched by TAU and inspired by the dream of AI-powered interspecies dialogue, celebrates advances that bring us one step closer to cracking the code of animal language. “This is well-deserved recognition,” said one judge. The work is a testament to the power of science, respect for the natural world and Israeli leadership in pioneering these type of curiosity-driven innovations.
