Last week, House Republicans passed what they are calling the “One Big Beautiful Bill” - a sweeping budget proposal that includes massive cuts to Medicare & Medicaid while giving trillions in tax breaks to billionaires.

But hidden in the thousand page bill is a single sentence that would destroy our judicial system in America:

If the provision would become law, it would restrict how federal judges can hold government officials or other litigants in contempt if they defy court-issued injunctions and restraining orders. Contempt is a critical mechanism that courts use to enforce their rulings. If our courts can’t enforce their rulings, Trump can then do whatever he wants without consequence.

The Trump administration is currently facing the threat of being held in contempt for defying court orders in several cases - the illegal deportation of migrants without due process to Venezuela & South Sudan & the administration's refusal to bring home wrongfully deported and imprisoned Maryland father, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, from an El Salvador torture prison.

Trump has contempt for our constitution. He views separation of powers and check & balances as obstacles to his fascist ambitions - not as essential principles that hold our Democracy together. If unopposed, Trump will destroy our Democracy.
