1) Trade and Technology Conquered Inflation

We've long argued that by far the two most powerful factors for keeping prices low over the past forty years have been trade and technology. These both shifted out the supply curve and made nearly EVERYTHING except government less expensive.

Overall prices of all goods and services rose almost three times faster than import prices over the past three decades. Free trade is a big source of more affordable prices.

The other factor driving prices downward has been technology - with innovations such as cell phones, the Internet, and now robotics - which have seen 90% lower price tags.

Trade and high tech are both ironically two sectors of the economy that many of those on the right view with skepticism and sometimes hostility.

2) What "Tax Cuts for the Rich?"

Here's the rundown of which income groups get the largest and smallest tax cuts in the One Big Beautiful Bill. It's from former House Ways and Means chief economist Don Schneider. This compares the current 2025 rates with the new proposal. Every income group gets another tax cut, with the biggest benefits going to the middle class. The top 1% about breaks even.

So will the media stop shouting tax cuts for the rich? Yeah, right…

3) Airport Security Lines Grow as the Union Workers Break Out in Song

Everyone hates the long security lines at airports, but consider yourself lucky that you weren't in Las Vegas last Friday, where almost the entire TSA shift took a break from their duties to hold an impromptu performance of "The TSA Choir."
[link removed]

Yes, the passenger lines grew longer and carry-on bags filled the conveyor belts as the choir burst into song: "You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching..." While they were singing, there was only one TSA agent at each backed-up lane. Many travelers missed their flights thanks to these dedicated government employees.

It's antics like this from some of the nation's 47,000 unionized TSA employees that only strengthen the case for Congress allowing more airports to use private security screening companies - the way Israel has for years. In the U.S., 22 airports use such companies under TSA guidance. They include major cities such as San Francisco and Orlando, medium-sized cities such as Kansas City and Rochester, N.Y. and small markets such as Key West and Sioux Falls, S.D.

Last week, TSA's Acting Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill told a House committee that "if new privatization schemes make sense, then we're happy to have that discussion to see what we can come up with."

Our worry is that what happened in Vegas won’t stay in Vegas and we may see more of these stunts by an arrogant and unnecessary union.

4) Bernie Sanders: Democrats Are a Threat to Democracy

Here's our "they said it" item for the week.

Bernie Sanders now admits that there hasn't been a fair presidential primary within the Democratic Party since 2008, implicitly agreeing with the notion that the party itself poses a threat to democracy.

We strongly oppose Bernie's radical policy agenda, but at least there's one honest liberal left in Washington.
