Dear John
Burmese military exploiting the earthquake for their own gain
The devastating earthquake which struck Burma in March killed thousands and left tens of thousands homeless, but the Burmese military has ruthlessly exploited it for their own benefit. Read my blog which details how the Burmese military saw the earthquake as an opportunity to help themselves, not the people of Burma.
Airstrikes
Earlier this month our Programme Director Zoya Phan spoke at the launch of Testimonies From Beyond, an exhibition displaying personal items of people killed by Burmese military airstrikes and attacks. You can read her speech here.
Speaking in Parliament
Zoya was also invited to speak in the British Parliament at a meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Freedom of Religion or Belief. She described how people in Burma are exhausted by constant attacks by the Burmese military and natural disasters, but at the same time there is real hope that people can finally win their freedom from the military. You can read her speech here.
Podcast interview
I was invited for an in-depth interview by the Insight Myanmar podcast. The interview covers the history of Burma Campaign UK’s international advocacy, the situation today and the dangers of how the international community misunderstands the Burmese military and the situation in the country. You can listen here.
