John,
Half a million people in Gaza face starvation – purposefully caused by Netanyahu’s government. Meanwhile, some companies don’t miss a beat in feeding this oppressive system – like the French supermarket giant Carrefour.
In 2022 Carrefour launched a franchise partnership with Israeli company Electra Consumer Products (ECP), and is now supplying dozens of supermarkets across Israel, including many supermarkets in illegal settlements.
In July 2024, the International Court of Justice ruled that Israel's occupation, including its settlements, is entirely illegal. So why is Carrefour still in partnership with ECP?
Today is Carrefour's annual general meeting, and our partners will be there posing questions and challenging the company on its support for illegal occupation. Now they need our help to keep up the pressure online and show company executives (and their staff!) that people all over the world are demanding it cut ties with occupation.
Tell Carrefour: stop supporting Israel’s illegal occupation.
Carrefour has over 14,000 stores worldwide. It's been under pressure for years to divest from Israeli settlements. In fact, public pressure through boycotts was so intense in Jordan and Oman, the company was forced to close in those countries.
While those are likely smaller markets for Carrefour, the truth is, the tide is turning on Israel's occupation and genocide everywhere. Businesses and governments are realizing that the cost of fueling these war crimes is too high to bear. It shouldn't take Carrefour kicking and screaming to also realise this.
As a global movement of millions, we have the power to move Carrefour. Due to the relentless efforts of the Ekō community and partners all over the world, two other French companies, Orange and Veolia, divested from the Israeli occupation. Today, we can do it again and force Carrefour to end its criminal business dealings.
Tell Carrefour: stop supporting Israel’s illegal occupation.
