Here in Selwyn, the Government is delivering the country’s most significant
investment in school property!
Dear John,
I am delighted to announce that the Government is delivering the country’s most
significant investment in school property right here in Selwyn. The whopping
$112 million investment will deliver 1100 student places.
Our communities have been loud and clear – we didn’t have enough spaces to meet
the demand – and I want to thank the local principals and boards who’ve worked
so constructively with me to help inform the Government’s investment decisions.
The $112 million will deliver a new school, three expansions, 14 new classrooms
at existing schools, and land purchases for future new schools. That includes:
* Ten classrooms at Lincoln Primary School
* A 12 classroom expansion at Ararira Springs Primary School in Lincoln,
including two new learning support spaces
* A six classroom expansion at Te Rohotu Whio Primary School in Rolleston
* An expansion at Te Rau Horopito, including 12 classrooms, six outside
technology spaces and multipurpose space
* A 12-classroom expansion and admin spaces at the new campus for Rolleston
College
* The purchase of a site in Prebbleton for a primary school, and funding to
start construction on the first stage, which includes 12 teaching spaces, an
admin area and multipurpose space
* A site in Lincoln for a new primary school

This is massive news for families across our district! Not only that, but the
Government is giving the biggest boost to learning support in a generation to
better support our kids to thrive at school across the country.
Key investments include substantial annual increases to teacher aide hours,
building up to over 2 million additional teacher aide hours per year from 2028,
Learning Support Co-ordinators for all schools with Year 1-8 students, expanding
early intervention services from early learning through to end of year 1, and an
historic overhaul of the Ongoing Resourcing Scheme (ORS) funding model to ensure
that demand for the service is met with guaranteed funding so all students with
high and complex needs who are verified for ORS receive the support they need.

The education sector has been calling for more support for a long time, and this
Government is delivering results. Selwyn kids deserve a worldclass education so
that they can get ahead.
Your feedback and views really matter to me so please do contact us to share
them. As always, my office is open Monday to Friday and either myself or my
staff will be happy to help you.
Best wishes,
Hon Nicola Grigg
