Jim is one of the most respected financial minds in the country—someone who was in the room during the last financial crisis. As Chief Restructuring Officer at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, he led the successful restructuring of AIG during the 2008 recession. He has advised governments, unions, and major corporations on some of the most complex economic reorganizations in recent memory. Today, as Co-Chairman of Guggenheim Securities, Jim remains at the forefront of global financial and policy strategy.

The reality of America’s fiscal outlook is becoming harder to ignore. Bond markets are rattled. Deficits are rising. And the proposed Republican reconciliation package—projected to add $3.8 trillion to the debt over the next decade—has only added to the concern.

Our movement must start thinking now about a “break-glass-in-case-of-emergency” plan. What should leaders do first in the event of a debt crisis? What tools will they have? And how can we fix the long-term picture with as little pain as possible?
