John,
As we approach the end of the 2025 legislative session, Connecticut Democrats have been hard at work advancing policies that prioritize equity, safety, and opportunity for all residents.
Here's a look at some of the key laws moving through the legislature this session:
Immigration and Civil Rights: The Connecticut House strengthened the Trust Act, expanding protections for immigrants lacking permanent legal status. The bill defines the limits of cooperation between state and local law enforcement and federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), making clear exceptions in cases involving judicial warrants for serious felonies or violent crimes.
Climate Change and Environmental Protection: The state Senate has passed key environmental legislation to protect public health, wildlife, and our natural resources. It helps towns prepare for flooding, sea-level rise, and extreme climate-related events and creates funding mechanisms for climate-ready infrastructure. It also protects birds, pollinators, and other wildlife from deadly poisons that have done enormous harm.
Veterans: The HERO Act is on its way to Governor Lamont’s desk for his signature, following action in the Senate. This new law reduces DMV-related costs for CT Veterans, helps vets in need access nursing home care, improves access to dental care, and more.
Education: A major education reform bill has moved out of committee and onto the floor for debate, amendment, and votes. Democrats are leading the charge to address the urgent and growing need to provide special education services in districts across Connecticut.
As the legislative session nears its end, Connecticut Democrats are working day and night for you. Whether it’s expanding opportunity, protecting Connecticut from unlawful federal overreach, or tackling the challenges Connecticut’s cities, towns, and people face every day, our lawmakers are fighting for policies that put you first.
Thank you for standing with us.
Sincerely,
CT Dems
