------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings, readers!
Last week, we told you about a provision in Republican-led tax legislation that would have allowed the US treasury secretary to arbitrarily strip nonprofits of their status, a reincarnation of the bill HR 9495, which passed the House last year. But the provision appears to be gone ([link removed]) (for now)! That’s right, it got cut out of this one. And that shows that “advocacy works,” as the National Council of Nonprofits President and CEO Diane Yentel noted. Then, another win logged for the sector: A federal judge said “No!” ([link removed]) to President Trump’s attempted takeover of the congressionally-created independent nonprofit, the US Institute of Peace, ruling the move was illegal. Then, NPQ staff writer Rebekah Barber reports on a recent panel
([link removed]) , hosted by the Boston Foundation, of nonprofit leaders at the forefront of the sector’s struggle to withstand the assaults of the Trump administration.
Finally, it’s last call to join our May Premium webinar ([link removed]) , “Ask the Nonprofit Lawyer,” which is today at 2:00 pm ET.
As always, we welcome feedback. Reach me at
