Dear Fellow Young Democrat,

This Memorial Day, the Indiana Young Democrats join our fellow Hoosiers and Americans in honoring the brave service members who gave their lives in defense of our country. Their sacrifice is a solemn reminder of the cost of freedom and the depth of commitment required to protect it.

From the fields of Gettysburg to the shores of Normandy, from the jungles of Vietnam to operations in the Middle East, Hoosiers have always answered the call to serve. Indiana is home to more than 400,000 veterans and countless families who have sacrificed in the name of service. We remember not just names etched in stone or flags placed on graves, but individuals—sons and daughters, siblings and spouses, neighbors and friends—who believed in a vision of a better world.

We honor all who stood in harm’s way and made the ultimate sacrifice so future generations could live in peace, pursue opportunity, and enjoy the rights guaranteed by our democracy.

As young leaders and advocates for progress, we reflect today on the responsibility we share to uphold the values these service members fought for—liberty, equality, and justice for all. Let us honor their memory not only with words, but with action: by voting, organizing, leading with integrity, and pushing for policies that ensure every American has the chance to thrive.

May we always remember that freedom is not free, and that the path to a more perfect union is ours to walk, together.
