Herbert,
Today, I had the honor of gathering with Gold Star families, active duty troops and other veterans to honor the memory of all Marylanders who have served and sacrificed for our nation.
It was a solemn ceremony, with taps, a 21-gun salute and tearful hugs. For me, Memorial Day is also a call to action, to ensuring our country keeps the promises it has made to every service member and every family who bears the burden of their loss.
It's a call to stand firm against any effort to cut veterans' healthcare, put off VA infrastructure projects, and end programs for veterans mental wellbeing and suicide prevention.
These are promises we have to keep.
I won't let anyone turn their back on those who serve this country, their families and caretakers. I will carry that responsibility with me everyday as a member of Congress.
