Today is Memorial Day—a solemn day to honor all those who wore the uniform of our nation and gave their lives in service to our country, and to reflect on the freedoms they fought to protect. It has special meaning in Eastern Connecticut’s Second District, which is home to the largest military installation in New England and the highest percentage of veterans among the state’s five congressional districts.

Throughout our history, hundreds of thousands of Americans made the ultimate sacrifice as they served us with dignity and pride. Every day, many continue to put on their uniforms and risk their lives to protect our home.

This Memorial Day, I’m continuing the work to ensure that every service member returning from the battlefield receives the benefits and care they earned. That means fighting for their healthcare, adequate housing, and mental health services.

Please take some time today to remember the fallen and honor their sacrifices.
