Reflecting on the cost of freedom

<>

John,

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we pause to honor the
brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation’s freedom.
Representing New York’s 21st Congressional District, the cradle of the American
Revolution, is a profound honor. From the hallowed grounds of Saratoga and
Ticonderoga to the modern-day heroes of Fort Drum and the 10th Mountain
Division—the most deployed division in the U.S. Army since 9/11—service and
sacrifice are woven into the very fabric of our region.

The 10th Mountain Division’s storied legacy, from the battlefields of World
War II to conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, and beyond, reflects the enduring
courage of our soldiers. This Memorial Day, my thoughts are with the Gold Star
families and all those who have lost loved ones in service to our country.
Their sacrifices are forever etched in our nation’s history, and we owe them an
eternal debt of gratitude. As the chief advocate for Fort Drum in Congress, I
remain steadfast in ensuring our soldiers and their families have the
resources, support, and recognition they deserve.

Let us reflect on the profound cost of our freedom and renew our pledge to
support our veterans, active-duty service members, and military families. In a
region where patriotism runs deep, we are reminded that America remains the
land of the free because of the brave. May God bless our fallen heroes, their
families, and the United States of America.

Thank you,

<>
