Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend—it’s a time to honor the courageous men and women who laid down their lives so that we can live ours in peace and freedom.

John,

As we come together with family and friends this Memorial Day, I hope you’ll join me in pausing to reflect on the true meaning of this solemn day.

Memorial Day is more than just a long weekend—it’s a time to honor the courageous men and women who laid down their lives so that we can live ours in peace and freedom. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the blessings of liberty and the opportunities that make America the greatest nation on earth.

In my role as Lieutenant Governor, I’ve had the honor of meeting many of Georgia’s veterans and Gold Star families. Their stories are a powerful reminder that the freedoms we cherish were secured by patriots who answered the call to serve—often knowing the cost would be everything.

As we remember those we’ve lost, let’s also recommit to supporting the heroes who came home and the families who carry on in the absence of their loved ones. Our gratitude must be matched with action—in our communities, in our schools, and in our everyday lives.

So today, whether you're attending a local ceremony, visiting a gravesite, or simply enjoying a moment of silence, I encourage you to reflect on the legacy of service and sacrifice that defines our nation.

May God bless those we remember today. May He bless their families. And may He continue to bless the great state of Georgia and the United States of America.

With respect and gratitude,

Burt Jones
Lieutenant Governor of Georgia
