Dear John:

This Memorial Day weekend, as so many of us kick off the unofficial start to Summer, let's also be sure to take the time to reflect on those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to this great nation.

One Big Beautiful Bill Act Passes in the House

House Republicans are committed to delivering on our promise for tax relief for the American people. This week, we stood by that commitment to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.

This One, Big, Beautiful Bill:
- Makes the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent, protecting the average taxpayer from a 22% increase.

- Makes permanent the doubled guaranteed Standard Deduction and expands it by $2,000 for every American family.

- Creates new tax relief for seniors by adding an additional $4,000 deduction for those age 65 and over.

- Makes permanent the 199A small business deduction and expands it to 23% for the over 60,000 small businesses in the 7th District.

- Makes permanent and increases the doubled Death Tax Exemption for the nearly 30,000 farms in the 7th District, helping families pass down their life's work to the next generation.

- Prevents the Child Tax Credit from being cut in half and expands the credit to $2,500 to support 74,460 families in the 7th District.

- Eliminates tax on tips and overtime pay.

- Expands 529 education so families can make the right choices for them, including for K-12 education materials, universities, or trade school.

- and so much more.

The Ways & Means Committee traveled the country to hear from constituents, and we were told in no uncertain terms that we needed to make the 2017 tax cuts permanent. Anyone who voted against this bill is not listening to what the American people are telling Congress they need.

I am immensely proud of the work my colleagues and I have done on the Ways and Means and Rules Committees to ensure we develop a bill that provides vital relief for farmers, families, and small businesses.

Two Jewish Diplomats Murdered

This week, a pro-Palestine antisemite murdered Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, Israeli diplomats, outside of an event being held at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

This is a sickening, devastatingly concrete example of how far antisemites will go to spread their hate. Something like this should never be able to happen anywhere, and especially not in America. As my heart breaks for their families, friends, and the entire Jewish community, I keep them all in my prayers.

Antisemitic events have been on the rise since the horrific Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023. This murderer had participated in  I am proud to serve alongside my fellow Republican Members and a White House that is committed to defending the Jewish community.

Bikers on the Beltway

When I wasn't working with the Rules Committee to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, I was able to meet with the American Bikers for Awareness, Training, and Education of Minnesota (or ABATE MN) when they were in town for Bikers on the Beltway. They advocate for motorcyclists at every level of government, promoting the positive aspects of motorcycling to the public and educating bikers themselves to reduce accidents on Minnesota's roads.

Pope Leo's Inaugural Mass

Image

I was honored to start my week by attending Pope Leo's Inaugural Mass in the Vatican with 200,000 others from around the world. It was truly incredible to see the first American Pope give a homily that honored the legacy of Pope Francis and looked towards the future of the Church. He spoke with love and humility and I sincerely hope he will come to America, and maybe even give a joint address for Members of Congress.
