Powered By People

Powered by People is an extraordinary organization, comprised of volunteers all throughout the state. I'm an unpaid volunteer myself.

We train our volunteers to become Volunteer Deputy Registrars in Texas. After the 2013 Shelby v. Holder decision which gutted the Voting Rights Act, no state has taken it harder than Texas.

Texas has the most onerous voter ID laws, one ballot drop off location per county (including Harris County with nearly 5 million people in the middle of a pandemic) 750 polling place closures, no online voter registration, no automatic voter registration…

Our volunteers meet young prospective voters literally where they are, very often on college campuses, and in addition to helping them through the registration process they personally stay in touch with them – like a voting sherpa – to guide them through the process of voting.

And because we're a partisan organization, we will share which candidates represent your values on a woman's ability to make her own decisions about her own body, reducing shootings in our schools, raising the minimum wage, making sure that you can see a doctor. I mean the basic things that, regardless of party or any other difference, are what Texans want right now.

But none of this happens without grassroots financial support. Every dollar we raise goes directly to volunteer training, voter outreach, and expanding our organizing capacity across Texas. And all while we’re up against one of the most voter-hostile environments in the country.

If you believe in this vision, chip in whatever you can today.

Thank you,

Beto
