John,

Before being elected as Vermont’s Congresswoman, I was a middle school history teacher. I know there is an urgent need to document this moment in our country’s history.

Our awareness of what’s going on in Washington cannot be brushed under the rug.

Stephen Miller — a Trump aide and probably the most joyless man in America — said that Trump is considering suspending the writ of habeas corpus.

I’m sorry. What?

If our right to challenge unlawful detainment in court is suspended, that means that any of us could be locked up with absolutely zero cause. This is Trump trying to centralize more power.

John, there is nothing more important than our liberty. So this moment must be remembered — when a wannabe authoritarian threatened the rights of all Americans.

The absurdity can get exhausting, but I’m not letting that distract me. I’m focused on what matters: delivering for Vermonters, defending our rights, and alleviating suffering for regular working families.

While Republicans stay silent about Trump’s chaos and threats against our rights, I’m committed to calling them out every step of the way.

I don’t work for billionaires, John. I work for people like you. So if you can, please pitch in a grassroots donation today to fuel my fight.
