Insider’s Report: House-Passed Bill Will Gut Medicaid and Hurt Millions of Older Americans
According to President Trump, “we’re not doing any cutting of anything meaningful” in what supporters call the “big, beautiful bill” that was rammed through the U.S. House of Representatives early Thursday morning with a one-vote margin.
Tell that to the millions of Americans, especially older adults, who rely on Medicaid for their basic needs. The House tax and spending bill (H.R. 1) ( [link removed] ) will slash a staggering $717 billion from Medicaid — devastating programs millions of seniors rely on. It guts long-term care, home support services, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, and more — robbing many older Americans of the chance to age with dignity.
The GOP’s huge reconciliation bill sacrifices the health and well-being of millions of Americans to help pay for massive tax cuts that mainly benefit the wealthy and huge corporations. It’s the largest cut in Medicaid’s 60-year history and it will devastate millions of mature and older Americans.
This bill now goes to the U.S. Senate where the Trump Administration and GOP hardliners are turning up the pressure on lawmakers to quickly pass this callous bill.
That is why the National Committee is working around the clock, meeting with lawmakers and their staff, mobilizing our grassroots membership around the country to take action and alerting the American public about the dangers of this bad bill through media appearances, op-eds and more.

Good Bills
The National Committee endorses the “Social Security Emergency Inflation Relief Act” that would protect Social Security, Veterans and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) beneficiaries from the inflation and economic chaos triggered by President Trump’s disastrous, across-the-board tariffs.
The legislation would increase Social Security benefits by $200 per month through the end of the year — providing relief to millions of Americans who live on a fixed income and cannot keep up with the cost increases that will inevitably result from President Trump’s economic policies.
