San Antonio

Posthumous Medal Presentation for the Family of Master Sergeant Ramon Najera

One of the most special things that I get to do is to award medals to veterans who served their country honorably. Ramon Najera, a San Antonio native, enlisted in 1960 and retired as Master Sergeant after 21 years of service to our country. It was an honor to present the Air Force Conduct Medal and Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal and Ribbon, Non-Commissioned Officer Graduate Ribbon, Air and Space Outstanding Unit Award, Air and Space Longevity Service Award, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Army Good Conduct Medal and Ribbon to his family this week.

Washington, D.C.

The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy Panel

Image Image

The Future of U.S. Foreign Policy is on the line. This Administration has gutted USAID and recklessly cut foreign aid. They are hurting the standing, security, and prosperity of the United States. I was honored to join my colleagues Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-51) and Rep. Gabe Amo (RI-01) to break down the most pressing issues our nation is facing.

I joined my Democratic Texas colleagues, Rep. Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Rep. Al Green (TX-09), Rep. Lloyd Doggett (TX-37), and Rep. Julie Johnson (TX-32) to discuss the disastrous Republican Budget bill and how we are fighting back.

This week, members of the National American Latino Museum came together to celebrate the leadership of the National American Latino Museum. I will continue to fight for this Museum, its existence, and its place on the National Mall.

Meeting with Mexican Congressional Delegation
 Image

This week, I met with members of the Mexican Congressional Delegation and Ambassador Moctezuma to discuss remittances and the shared responsibility between the United States and Mexico. Remittances are critical financial lifelines and must remain accessible, affordable, and secure for our communities on both sides of the border.

Constituent Meetings

This week, I had the pleasure of meeting with various groups and organizations that shared ideas on how to make San Antonio a better place. One of the groups I met with – Vibrant Works – shared opportunities to support individuals who are blind or visually impaired.

Statement on the Passing of the Republican Budget Bill

Earlier this week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Republican budget bill that is a direct attack on Texas working families kids, seniors, and women. This legislation now moves to the Senate before it goes to President Trump. But this process is not over. Folks need to keep calling their representatives, sharing their stories, going to town halls, and staying engaged.
