It’s true, team. The Trump administration recently gutted the leadership of the Justice Department’s voting rights unit.  

It’s a move that doesn’t just threaten decades of progress. It could unleash a new level of election subversion that aims to strip away our rights.

But this attack didn’t come out of thin air. For years, anti-democracy forces have laid the groundwork to propel an extreme anti-voter agenda across the country, undermining fair representation and the right to vote at every turn.

In going after the Department of Justice’s voting rights unit, the administration strips the division of its ability to pursue active cases as well as enforce civil rights protections and critical election laws.

It’s horrifying to think of what this will mean for the freedom to vote, team. As watchdogs and legal experts have noted, these changes "are turning the Civil Rights Division on its head." Instead of protecting the right to vote, new DOJ leadership has gone after the very principles of the Voting Rights division, attacking the independence and protection that ensures that every eligible voter can make their voice heard.
