Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
As we head into the holiday weekend, I want to take this moment to reflect on the events of the past few days.
Following the heinous tragedy at the Capital Jewish Museum, our community stood shoulder to shoulder in quickly denouncing hate and antisemitism. As we shared our condolences and prayers with all who were impacted, I convened an interfaith meeting with faith leaders from congregations and institutions across DC. We heard from leaders across multiple faiths who reiterated messages of love and solidarity with the Jewish community.
These are terrible moments that we hope to never experience. And in this case, the fear and grief has been felt far beyond our city. But when tragedies do happen, I am grateful that we have a community that stands united to love and strong in our values.
I’m also grateful that those values are not just something we lean on in tragedy. Because I also saw those values this week at Senior Fest. I saw them at a community meeting in Ward 7 last night and a health council meeting earlier this week in Ward 8. I saw them today when we came together to strategize about public safety and engaging our young people in safe and supervised activities. I see these values daily across all eight wards.
Thank you, and let’s stick together.
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowserdfd
