Dear Friend,

This week the House passed the budget reconciliation bill, also known as the "One Big Beautiful Bill.” This bill advances many of President Trump’s key agenda items and delivers major wins for the American people.

First and foremost, it protects families and small businesses from the largest tax hike in history and puts more money back into the pockets of seniors, parents, and workers. It also permanently secures the border, funds mass deportations, unleashes American energy, and makes key investments in our military while cutting red tape.

One of the key priorities I fought for was repealing the Green New Scam’s solar and wind handouts that were supercharged in former President Biden’s so-called “Inflation Reduction Act.” Some of these projects receive over $50,000 per acre in taxpayer handouts – a shocking amount of money to spend on “energy” that can’t even reliably keep the lights on. Thankfully, the House-passed version of this bill included a true repeal of these grid-destabilizing giveaways 60 days after the bill is signed into law.

While more work remains to rein in Washington spending, this legislation is an important step toward reversing the damage of Biden-era policies and restoring an America that is affordable, safe, and strong.

I also want to take this time to debunk a few narratives from the Left.

First, they claim that this bill is only tax breaks for the rich. That is categorically false.

Americans earning between $30,000 and $80,000 will pay around 15% less in taxes with this reconciliation bill, with estimates even showing that take-home pay will be $7,800 to $13,300 higher for families. The bill also eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, expands childcare credits, and makes the child tax credit permanent – ensuring that American families keep more of what they earn. You can read more about that here.

Second, liberal politicians like Senator Baldwin falsely accuse us of cutting Medicaid and Food Stamps, going so far as to use disabled individuals as props to promote their dishonest claims. They aren’t telling you the truth.

Republicans are preserving these programs for the vulnerable. By restoring work requirements for able-bodied adults without young dependents, we are making sure that those who could be working are working. The legislation also includes provisions to prevent illegal aliens from accessing taxpayer-funded welfare resources – a practice currently allowed in 14 states. These common-sense reforms will guarantee that these programs remain protected and accessible for those who truly need them – the elderly, the disabled, low-income children, and pregnant women.

Third, lawmakers are prohibited from making any changes to Social Security in the reconciliation process due to something called the Byrd Rule. As a result, eliminating taxes on Social Security benefits cannot be included in this package but could be addressed later this Congress. However, the proposal did include an additional $4,000 deduction for seniors. This “senior bonus" is designed to help those on fixed incomes like Social Security keep more of their hard-earned money. It’s also why I cosponsored the Senior Citizens Tax Elimination Act to repeal the unfair income taxes on Social Security benefits.

Thanks again for starting off your weekend with us! We hope you enjoy this week’s edition of the Tiffany Telegram and take a moment to attend a Memorial Day ceremony to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. We will be back in two weeks with more updates!

Sincerely,

Big beautiful border security

Out of the many major wins from this week’s reconciliation package, provisions from the House Judiciary Committee will deliver critical resources to advance immigration integrity and enhance our national security. It is no secret that the Biden-Harris administration spent the last four years flooding our country with millions of illegal aliens. Thanks to their dangerous open-border policies, we’ve seen dire threats to the safety of our communities across the country – in essence making every state a border state. Thankfully, President Trump has reversed course, resulting in an 88% drop in illegal border encounters just this year. In order to continue this work, House Republicans have provided funding for at least 1 million deportations per year, 10,000 new Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel, and ICE detention capacity for at least 100,000 illegal aliens. Additionally, by establishing permanent immigration-related fees, the costs of these provisions and immigration enforcement will shift away from taxpayers and onto foreign nationals – putting Americans first.

Big beautiful energy

As Telegram readers know, the Natural Resources Committee crafted key provisions of the "One Big Beautiful Bill" that passed the House this week. Those provisions are estimated to generate over $20 billion in new revenue and savings for taxpayers – a huge win for America. By unleashing American energy dominance, these reforms will help ensure affordable energy for hardworking families while also helping employers create more jobs across the country. It does this by reinstating quarterly onshore oil and gas lease sales, clearing the way for at least 30 offshore lease sales in the Gulf of America over the next 15 years, and resuming coal leasing on federal lands. All of this is needed to drive the economic growth we need for a prosperous America. There are a lot of other great items in this bill that will help usher in a new golden age, like boosting critical mineral production and increasing timber production. You can read more about them here.

Honoring those who have sacrificed

This Memorial Day weekend, please join me in honoring the brave heroes who lost their lives defending our freedoms. Their sacrifice is the only reason we can enjoy our liberties. This week, the House moved forward with several bills to address veterans' concerns, including a home loan safety net program and bills designed to streamline the VA. We also passed the CHIP IN for Veterans Act, which modernizes and improves veteran facilities by allowing public-private partnerships. You can click here to learn more. The VA is also making it easier for our veterans to use community care and announced the availability of $52 million in suicide prevention grant funds. These are important steps that will enhance and expand the access to care our veterans deserve, and I look forward to working with my colleagues in the future to build on these gains.

District Update

Making communities SAFER

This month, President Trump’s Department of Homeland Security announced that FEMA will make $360 million available for the Fiscal Year 2024 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program. This program goes directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighters to ensure they have the funds necessary to supply and staff their departments. In 2022, my office was able to write a letter of support on behalf of the Wausau Fire Department to help them receive a total of $3.1 million from the SAFER grant program. This grant allowed the department to expand its staff for the first time in over fifty years, funding nine additional firefighters/paramedics for three years. The deadline to apply for the SAFER grant program is July 3rd, 2025. For more information on the program, click here. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact my office.

Upcoming Events

Necedah Post Office renaming ceremony

On Tuesday, May 27th at 1:00 PM, the USPS, alongside my office, will be hosting a Necedah Post Office renaming ceremony in honor of Sergeant Kenneth E. Murphy. Sergeant Murphy was born and raised in Necedah and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Despite being wounded twice, he organized his men and led them in a fierce counterassault on the enemy near Tuy Hoa. Sergeant Murphy received a Purple Heart and the Distinguished Service Cross for his service and sacrifice, and last year, Congress passed a bill to rename the Necedah Post Office in his honor. The renaming ceremony will take place at the Necedah Veteran's Memorial Hall. You can find more information about the renaming legislation here.
