Another Brilliant Plan from the Party That Brought You Rolling Blackouts
Democrats thought forcing Americans into overpriced electric vehicles and energy-starved grids was a winning strategy — until Congress said, “Not so fast.” In a rare moment of sanity, lawmakers overturned California’s gas car ban that would’ve roped in 11 other blue states, including (of course) Washington. The ban, scheduled to kick in for the 2026 model year, demanded a 68% spike in electric vehicle sales practically overnight — a feat even Toyota called “impossible.”
Washington Democrats, naturally, were all in on this California-paved road to regulatory chaos, ignoring the reality that most working families can’t shell out $700+ a month for a new EV, nor do they have the luxury of charging one during a blackout. The cherry on top? These mandates would’ve hiked used car prices across the country, creating a luxury market for 10-year-old gas guzzlers.
While legal wrangling will follow (California’s AG is already suing to keep the madness alive), this vote is a rare win for consumer choice and common sense. Washingtonians deserve options — not California’s grid failures and elitist policies dressed up as environmentalism. Read more at Center Square.

When Democrats Expand Government Without a Calculator
Only in Democrat-run Olympia do you get a feel-good expansion of a government board—without bothering to fund it.Gov. Bob Ferguson just vetoed part of a bill he otherwise liked because, surprise, nobody in his party remembered to include the money. That’s right: the same Democrats who want to reimagine public safety through a bloated Clemency & Pardons Board forgot you actually have to pay for the staff to run it.
Sponsored by Rep. Roger Goodman (D-Kirkland), the bill would balloon the board from five to ten members, pad their per diems, and require training in race equity and “restorative justice,” while conveniently glossing over any mandate to include law enforcement or prosecutors. Because who needs balance when you’re granting clemency “in the interest of justice” — a phrase so vague it might as well mean “because we feel like it.”
Despite passing the Legislature without a single Republican vote and even losing some Democrats along the way, Goodman was apparently shocked the governor hit the brakes. Not because of concerns about public safety or board bias, mind you, but because no one budgeted for the new staffer Bob needs to oversee his own criminal justice makeover. Oops.
But don’t worry — they’ll fix the funding “in a few months” during the next budget cycle. Because when you’re running the state like an improv troupe with a credit card, what’s a little delay and fiscal irresponsibility between friends? Read more at Center Square.
