John,
Our fight to stop this Billionaire Budget is far from over.
Over the last several months, as we were sending hundreds of thousands of messages to Congress opposing the largest transfer of wealth from working families to the richest 1%, we weren’t just sending messages to Representatives. We were sending them to Senators too.
And, in addition to meeting with House Republican offices, bringing with us constituents who would be directly impacted by cuts to SNAP and Medicaid, we have been meeting with Senate offices too.
That’s because we needed to make this bill as toxic as possible in the Senate. And our work is already paying off.
In response to House-passage of this ugly budget, Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) told reporters, “I have said and made clear that I do not want to take away Medicaid benefits.”1
Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said that the Child Tax Credit “needs to be higher”2 and is also sounding the alarm about Medicaid cuts.3
Yet, some Senators like Ron Johnson (R-WI), feel that the more than $1.5 trillion in basic needs cuts don’t go far enough.4 Can he and others be convinced to eliminate the primary driver of this debt-fueled bill―the $5.5 trillion tax scam for the rich?
With Senators headed home for a week-long Memorial Day recess, we’re not letting them rest. We’re keeping the pressure on members in their home states and districts, letting them know that we’re watching―that Congress can’t pass a disastrous budget package in the wee hours of the morning, without consequences.
Rush a donation now to ramp up our pressure on the U.S. Senate to reject the House-passed Billionaire Budget and instead pass a bill that invests in meeting people’s needs.

A theme throughout this House budget? Attacking immigrant communities. The House budget penalizes 14 states for using their own budgets to cover undocumented immigrants, primarily children, by withholding Medicaid funding. It also takes the Child Tax Credit away from 4.5 million children whose families pay taxes but have a parent who does not have a Social Security number. And it restricts Federal Student Aid, Medicare, SNAP, and the Affordable Care Act for lawfully present immigrants—including refugees.5
In addition to paying for more tax breaks for the ultra-rich, this budget supercharges Trump’s mass deportation scheme―sending hundreds of billions of dollars more to ICE and the Pentagon to increase detention centers and raids on immigrant communities.
Many of these raids have been in violation of people’s due process rights―shipping people abroad without allowing them their day in court. Maryland resident Kilmar Abrego Garcia is still trapped in a prison in El Salvador, even as U.S. courts demand his return.6
Rush a donation now to quickly ramp up our campaign, demanding the Senate reject the Billionaire Budget and invest in our communities, not billionaires’ bloated bank accounts.
