As your Comptroller and a Vice Chair of the State Retirement and Pension System Board, my job is to ensure that Maryland’s pension funds are responsibly managed and protected so that everyone who contributed can benefit.

I participated in a webinar hosted by the Americans for Financial Reform Education Fund (AFREF) to discuss how state leaders can strengthen our economy and push back against federal attacks.

In Maryland, we’re taking proactive steps. As I mentioned in the webinar, we have formed a Climate Advisory Panel to guide pension investments because climate risk is financial risk. Ignoring risks from labor violations or the benefits of investing in women- and minority-owned businesses isn’t just irresponsible – it’s bad economics.

I’m committed to protecting the financial security of our public workers and ensuring that Maryland’s investments reflect our values. Together, we can defend what our workers have rightfully earned.
