Hi John,
I’m Janti Soeripto, CEO of Save the Children. Yesterday, I spoke at the UN Security Council’s Protection of Civilians Open Debate about the attacks on childhood we’re witnessing across the globe. Right now, conflict is displacing, injuring and killing children at devastating rates. Their safety, education and emotional well-being are unraveling as the world looks on in horror. Kids play no part in starting these wars, yet they always suffer most. It’s a heartbreaking – and utterly unacceptable – reality.
John, we must demand urgent action from our leaders. Please, call on Congress to safeguard innocent lives. |
Throughout my years at Save the Children, I’ve met too many beautiful families torn apart by loss and war.
In Ukraine, 90% of child casualties are caused by wide-range explosives.
These brutal weapons are used in crowded towns and cities – places where children play and go to school. A quarter of the country is now covered in landmines and explosive devices, some even hidden in toys and furniture.
Those who survive will return to homes, schools and hospitals reduced to rubble by relentless airstrikes. Rebuilding this infrastructure could take decades, with lasting consequences for generations to come.
If lawmakers agree on one thing, let it be this: Kids must NEVER be caught in the crossfire of war.
For the children, |
