As news unfolds about the inside workings of the Biden presidency, we who live here are shocked that so many seem genuinely surprised at what we are learning about the inner workings and cover-ups in the Biden administration. Willful ignorance, a lack of curiosity, and a desire to remain in the good graces of the Biden White House led most of the press corps to turn a blind eye to the biggest political scandal in American history. Yet, even the casual observer of President Biden’s missteps, wanderings, incoherent sentences, light work schedule, inaccurate statements, and frozen looks at inappropriate times could tell that something was very wrong with our commander in chief. Anyone who dared mention what we all saw with our own eyes was attacked, demeaned, and worse. Who was running the country, determining foreign policy, making the big domestic decisions, guiding the ship of state, and allowing the invasion of our country by illegal aliens? Who was in charge of the nuclear codes?! Bit by bit, like the peeling of an onion, we are getting small glimpses of those answers, and one thing is becoming crystal clear -- those close to the center of power put personal loyalty to a feeble president unable to carry out the duties of the office and their leftist ideology above loyalty to our country. Why? Because to stop the charade would have shown a spotlight on what had been going on and their own culpability in it all. Plus, the clueless president gave them an inordinate amount of power and a monetary gravy train to boot. Shame! This story will continue to unfold. I suspect what we learn will become more sinister and frightening. Big names are lawyering up. Investigations have been called for. It's likely more books and articles are forthcoming. The true story behind the shocking number of Biden presidential pardons (by autopen?) will come out. Looking back to the summer of 2024 and the debate between then-President Biden and then-candidate Donald Trump, it feels like the statement that captured it all was uttered by the once and future president: “I don’t know what he said at the end of that sentence. I don't think he knows what he said either.” For those of us watching, that was a watershed moment. Heavenly Father, we come to you with grateful hearts to thank you for holding our country in the palm of your hand during four years that could have been absolutely catastrophic. We all saw glimpses of presidential shortcomings and prayed for our country during trying political times. Yet, all-knowing Father, you knew the depth and breadth of what was happening and kept our country within the guardrails. As your Word says, “For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Romans 8:26) Thank you, Dear Father, for your infinite care for us even when we cannot see you at work. This week the nation’s capital experienced the horrific murder, assassination really, of two young employees at the Israeli Embassy. They were attending an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in the heart of Washington, just blocks from Capitol Hill. The killer chanted “Free, Free Palestine,” just like so many have recently chanted on the campuses of the nation's top universities. The vicious attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, should have led to worldwide condemnation. Instead, it was a rallying cry for those wanting to delegitimize the state of Israel and dehumanize the Jewish people. This sick movement has gained a foothold on American college campuses and continues to grow. Lord, the ancient evil of antisemitism is growing in America. Student leaders call for the destruction of the state of Israel. Jewish people are dehumanized and attacked for practicing their faith. The Trump administration is responding in a variety of ways -- cutting federal funding and calling out university leadership, among other steps. Write on our hearts a desire to stand up for our Jewish friends and neighbors. Prompt us to pray for ways to show our solidarity with the Jewish people. Give us courage and opportunities to join the battle against antisemitism. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As we move into Memorial Day Weekend, let us remember the sacrifices so freely offered by those who came before us. They gave their lives so that we may enjoy the freedoms we practice today. It is our solemn responsibility to honor and remember them and pass along the meaning of this day to those walking in our family’s footsteps.
