The House has just passed an incredibly cruel bill designed to dismantle Medicaid – all to pay for massive tax cuts for billionaires.
The bill will rip healthcare coverage away from nearly 8 million people – including caregivers, domestic workers, older adults, and families across the country. For domestic workers already struggling to access healthcare and make ends meet, these record-breaking cuts will be devastating – costing both lives and livelihoods.
But our fight isn’t over yet. The bill now moves to the Senate, giving us just weeks to stop it – and so the National Domestic Workers Alliance is launching a bold, powerful campaign to rapidly scale up our fight: our "Summer to Save Medicaid."
Make no mistake: this bill is a direct attack on domestic workers and families across the country. Gutting Medicaid means slashing the long-term care that keeps older adults and people with disabilities living safely at home – forcing families into impossible choices between work and caring for loved ones. And at the same time, care workers who rely on Medicaid for both employment and health coverage will lose their jobs, deepening the care crisis when we need them most.
That’s why it’s so important we lift up the powerful voices of care workers – like NDWA member Jacqueline Lamar, who days ago shared her story with the media – highlighting just how vital Medicaid was in keeping her alive as she recovered from a stroke.
NDWA's "Summer to Save Medicaid" will elevate voices like Jacqueline’s to show lawmakers exactly what's at stake and ramp up the pressure on the Senate to reject these cuts. Key Republican Senators have already expressed concern, giving us a real shot at forcing the Senate to change course, but to do it we urgently need your help.
Right now, NDWA is investing in powerful, targeted ads to raise awareness and build opposition, supporting local teams organizing caregivers, and holding actions in key states that will make or break this fight. Then, in July– the anniversary of Medicaid’s enactment – we’re planning an ambitious, grassroots-led escalation, bringing domestic workers, care recipients, families, and advocates together to send a clear, powerful message: We will not let Medicaid be destroyed.
This fight matters deeply. It's about ensuring every domestic worker and caregiver has the dignity, support, and healthcare they deserve. It's about making sure working people don't have to lose everything when they or their loved ones become ill. And, it's about standing up to cruel policies that punish those who do the essential labor of caring for our families, schools, and communities.
