Folks: Today, the House passed their version of the federal budget.
It’s a disaster of a bill.
The GOP budget would slash critical programs like Medicaid, throwing more than 262,000 Virginians off their health care. It would gut the Inflation Reduction Act, jeopardizing thousands of jobs in Virginia alone. And it would make life more expensive at a time when costs are already sky-high — all so Trump can hand trillions of dollars in tax cuts to the wealthy and massive corporations.
So let’s talk about what will happen next, and how you can help stop this terrible bill:
Now that the House passed their budget, it will come to the Senate for us to consider.
Republican leadership in the Senate plans to use reconciliation to consider the bill, which is a special process that allows the Senate to pass legislation with a simple majority (instead of the usual 60 votes needed).
I’m fighting against this budget every step of the way — raising the alarm about the ways it would hurt working people, families, and small businesses, introducing amendments to try to tackle some of the worst components, and urging my GOP colleagues to consider how their constituents will be impacted.
But we need a strong public outcry against this budget if we have any hope of stopping it. Here’s what I’m asking you to do:
1. Pick up the phone and call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 and tell them you oppose budget cuts to programs like Medicaid and Social Security.
2. This is even more critical if you have Republican Senators, because they need to hear loud and clear what the public thinks about their plan.
3. Talk to your friends and neighbors, write letters to the editor, post online — the more people see others speaking out, the more likely they are to join in.
Bottom line: This budget is straight out of Project 2025, hurts everyday people to fund tax breaks for billionaires, and explodes the deficit.
I’m all in to fight back, and if you’re with me, I’d love to know it — please sign on today to say NO to the extreme GOP budget. [[link removed]]
Democrats may be in the minority right now, but that doesn’t mean we get a pass when it comes to fighting back against the dangerous and extreme legislation the GOP is trying to ram through.
