BREAKING news, John:

Early this morning, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives
passed Donald Trump’s government spending megabill, which includes HUGE
tax cuts for billionaires and attacks on climate justice.

Not only will this bill give billions in tax breaks to the wealthiest few,
but it will also have massive repercussions for our climate and
communities.

If passed and signed into law, this 1,000-page budget package will:

* Expand oil and gas production (fulfilling Trump’s promise to “drill
baby drill”);
* Rescind climate grants, including funds that would help frontline
communities build climate resilience;
* Fast-track new fossil fuel projects by gutting environmental review;
* Gut clean energy tax credits provided by the Inflation Reduction Act,
and add new fees for electric vehicles;
* Rescind Clean Air Act funds for promoting climate justice and reducing
greenhouse gas emissions.^1,2

And climate action isn’t the only thing under attack. The GOP megabill
also scales back safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, and cuts
funding for trans healthcare. These cuts will disproportionately harm
low-income, Black and brown, and LGBTQ+ people — communities that are
already hardest hit by the climate crisis.

But there is hope, John. House Republicans ultimately dropped
provisions to sell off our public lands for drilling from the final bill —
proof that when we raise our voices together, it works!

This disastrous megabill squeaked by with a margin of just one single vote
in the House. Next, it’s headed to the Senate — and we can’t let it become
law.
