A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.
ADL Friends,
Last night we witnessed a heinous attack against a young couple attending an event hosted by the American Jewish Committee at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. Our hearts are heavy with grief for the victims, their families and all those affected by this horrible act of violence.
I know many of us are shaken. I know many of us are scared. And we are all rightly outraged that this happened here in the United States.
We know that words have consequences. When antisemitic rhetoric is normalized, tolerated or even amplified in our public discourse, it creates an environment where violence against Jews becomes more likely.

As I noted on CNN this morning, “when you call for violence, you shouldn’t be surprised when violence actually ensues, and now we have lost two beautiful young people as a result.”
Antisemitism is at historic levels. ADL’s latest Audit of Antisemitic Incidents tracked a total of 9,354 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. in 2024. This is the highest number of attacks against Jews on record since ADL began tracking incidents 46 years ago.
We are doing everything we can in response to this latest attack. We are reaching out to support our friends from AJC, from the D.C. Jewish community and from across the country in this time of need. We are continuing to sound the alarm on the inferno of antisemitism wreaking havoc across the United States and around the world. And we are taking action to make the Jewish community and the country safer.
Please read on in this special edition of ADL’s weekly Antisemitism Briefing for updated information, for expert analysis and for ways to take action today and going forward as we fight hate for good together.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Greenblatt
CEO and National Director

Suspect in DC Jewish Museum Shooting Allegedly Posted Manifesto Calling to ‘Bring the War Home’
On the evening of May 21, shortly after 9 pm, Elias Rodriguez of Chicago allegedly shot and killed two Israeli embassy staff members as they were leaving an AJC Young Diplomats event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC. As he was taken into custody, Rodriguez shouted, “Free, free Palestine."
The ADL Center on Extremism has been able to connect the alleged suspect in the attack, with a high degree of certainty, to an alleged manifesto shared under the heading “Escalate For Gaza, Bring The War Home” — slogans commonly used by anti-Israel activists, particularly in more extreme, militant spaces.
ADL’s experts have released a report with insights into Rodriguez’s background, reactions from far-left and far-right extremist groups since the DC attack and an overview of the appallingly long list of terrorist plots or actual attacks targeting Jews, Zionists or Jewish institutions since last year.

Demand the White House Protect the Jewish Community
We must take action in the aftermath of this horrific shooting that targeted the Jewish community at a museum in our nation’s capital.
We cannot tolerate this escalating violence. The White House must secure resources to protect synagogues, Jewish schools and community centers across the country as well as to ensure the prosecution of antisemitic crimes, address antisemitism in our schools, disrupt online hate and combat hate crimes.
