This summer, walk with us through the night to fight suicide.
On June 21 in New York City, thousands of people from across the country will gather for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s 2025 Out of the Darkness Overnight Walk. This year’s event is particularly special, since it’s our 30th annual Overnight Walk –– an incredible testament to our dedicated volunteers and walkers who make this event possible, help it grow year over year, and bring suicide out of the darkness.
AFSP Connecticut Chapter volunteer Marie Demasi is one of the many local volunteers who make up the beating heart of our organization, and this June will be her tenth Overnight Walk. In a recent article for our Real Stories blog, “I Will Hug You When You Get Here: Acknowledging the Loss of a Sibling at The Overnight Walk,” Marie shares about losing her brother to suicide when they were both children, and the secret she felt she had to keep in the aftermath of his death. The story is heartbreaking but hopeful, in how Marie found her way to AFSP, and then more specifically to The Overnight:
