Earlier this month, the Trump administration quietly removed a memorial that honored victims of gun violence from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Over 100 portraits — children killed in schools, police officers lost in the line of duty, and families torn apart — were taken down. The administration even deleted the memorial’s page from the ATF website.

These actions are a symbol of Trump’s broader effort to erase hard-won progress on gun safety — and we can’t let him succeed.

The Trump administration isn’t just removing a memorial — they’re systematically dismantling the tools we use to prevent gun violence and actively working to:

* Slash the ATF’s budget by nearly $500 million — a one-third cut that would gut enforcement and oversight.

* Remove rules that revoked licenses from gun dealers who falsified records or skipped background checks.

* Roll back protections against illegal or untraceable firearms.

They may have taken down the portraits, and much more — but they can’t erase the lives lost, or the work still ahead. And while they roll back lifesaving reforms, we’re passing common-sense gun safety laws in the states, holding the line against the gun lobby, and building a movement rooted in accountability, community, and care.
