Hi John,
FIRST >> Iowa saw record turnout in the the primary after election officials made it easier to vote-by-mail.
THEN >> Republicans in the legislature pushed a bill to stop the Secretary of State from mailing absentee ballot applications to all registered voters.
Republicans are afraid that if more people can vote-by-mail, they'll lose in 2020. That's why they're pushing legislation to stop it. We can expect to see these sort of barriers to vote-by-mail in other states as Republicans mobilize.
You know that vote-by-mail is key to making the 2020 general election accessible, which is why our movement is so critical. Our movement circumvents Republican plans to block vote-by-mail, and ensures that voters can cast a ballot without worrying about Republican voter suppression or COVID-19. But now we need to fund this movement; for every $25 donated, we're sending mail-in ballot applications directly to voters.
And of course Republicans pushed this legislation right as the clock was running out on their session. They rely on people not paying attention and not caring, but we are and we do.
We're standing watch and taking action with our grassroots movement for vote-by-mail. Protecting our health is the key to protecting our democracy in 2020, and that's why we're sending mail-in ballot applications directly to voters and following up with text messages and phone calls so voters return them.
Republicans are building barriers to the ballot box, but we're fighting back. Make a donation to ensure Americans get mail-in ballot applications.
It was so exciting that Iowa saw record turnout in the primary thanks to expanded vote-by-mail. This made the Republican response of legislating to make it harder to vote-by-mail even more sad and despicable. There's a lot at stake this election and that's why our grassroots movement is so important.
Thank you,
Vote From Home 2020
