John,
Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse.
A few weeks ago, we found out how National was paying for its Budget: by cutting the pay of our lowest paid women – including nurses, teachers, and midwives.
Today, we learned young people are paying the price too.
National’s Budget slashes the Government’s KiwiSaver contribution.
That means an 18-year-old starting a KiwiSaver today will retire with $66,000 less. At the same time, they’re handing $200 million to overseas fossil fuel giants.
That’s right, John, National is taking money out of women’s future pay packets and raiding our kids' retirement savings to subsidise the fossil fuel industry.
New Zealand deserves better.
You deserve a government that invests in our young people and lifts pay for hard-working Kiwis – instead of taking from them. One that uses the Budget to build for the future, instead of making reckless cuts.
Today’s Budget makes it crystal clear: National is not that government.
Ia manuia,
Barbara Edmonds
