*MADISON, Wis.* – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the renewal of a Green Tier [ [link removed] ] participation contract with The C.A. Lawton Co. [ [link removed] ] (Lawton) in DePere. The agreement with Lawton is a continuation of the original Tier 2 contract that was signed in 2021.

The DNR’s Green Tier program [ [link removed] ] provides credible recognition to organizations committed to going above and beyond compliance to achieve superior environmental performance. Tier 2 participants agree to meet rigorous eligibility requirements, which are negotiated into participation contracts with the DNR and interested parties. These contracts enable significant environmental improvements by providing incentives and support from the DNR in return for implementing an environmental management system.

Lawton manufactures large iron castings and machined components for a range of markets including agriculture, paper, mining and energy. They are focused on being an industry leader in sustainability and cutting-edge business practices that respect limited resources.

Lawton has operated under an environmental management system that is certified to the ISO 14001 standard for the past five years. As a Tier 2 participant, the company has continued to demonstrate its commitment to superior environmental performance with projects that include independent energy assessments, upgrading a compressed air system, installing scrap metal pre-heater and light fixtures and beneficially reusing foundry sand for projects in nearby communities.

Lawton’s future goals under the renewed contract include establishing science-based targets, improving data collection and maintaining the interested parties group.

"Lawton has proudly partnered with the DNR for the past five years as a Tier 2 participant," said Alex Lawton, CEO of the company. "Our proactive collaboration with the DNR through the Green Tier program has been invaluable. This renewal underscores Lawton's commitment to our community and the environment, and we eagerly anticipate continuing this partnership in the years to come."

The renewed contract includes updates to the previous version and extends the company’s Tier 2 status for ten years. Under the 2025 contract, Lawton will continue to implement their environmental management system, undertake all required audits and submit an annual report to the DNR. The contract allows Lawton to continue coverage under the Green Tier Registration Permit and provides for Lawton’s air permit revisions to be prioritized by the DNR.
