 Dear Neighbor,
The legislative deadline to adjourn arrived at midnight Monday with seven separate finance bills approved for the state’s next two-year budget. A special session will be necessary to wrap up the other 12 finance bills that remain unresolved.
Since we adjourned, groups have continued working to iron out sticking points for the unfinished bills so a special session can take place as soon as possible. I also have continued meeting with the governor and fellow legislative leaders to help move things along. The governor is the only one who can call a special session for the legislature to finish its budget work. For that to happen, we need to have all 12 of these bills buttoned up.
The quicker we take care of business the better, especially after House Democrats stayed home the first 23 days of this session. I remain optimistic we can wrap things up sooner rather than later.
Look for more details as things develop in St. Paul. Until then, I hope you have a great Memorial Day weekend as we honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. It is a solemn reminder of the price these heroes paid for our freedom as we reflect on their sacrifice, express our gratitude, and maintain their legacies for future generations to appreciate.
Sincerely,
Lisa
