Dear Friend,

Trump and Republicans in Congress spent months lying to the American people, saying they would preserve healthcare, and they wouldn't touch Medicaid. Last week, House Republican Committee Members voted to make the largest cuts to Medicaid and food assistance in American history. Millions of seniors, veterans, children, and hardworking families will lose their healthcare coverage, and millions more will be left hungry. Keep reading below to learn more this plan and what I’m working on in Congress.

Outraged by Republicans Cuts to Lifesaving Healthcare and Food Assistance for Seniors, Children, Veterans

Image

Rep. Norcross talks to constituents about senior services at the 2024 Constituent Services Fair.

Let’s be clear: people don’t ‘tighten their belts when Medicaid is cut. They lose access to life-saving medications, they skip doctor visits because they can’t afford them, they forgo vital surgeries, and, in some cases, they die. Cutting Medicaid won’t create prosperity; it will create poverty. We must fight back because Medicaid matters, and food for seniors and children matters. I will never stop fighting for our seniors, veterans, children, and hard-working families in South Jersey.

The Republican budget plan will:

  • End healthcare coverage for almost 14 million Americans
  • Include at least $700 billion in Medicaid cuts, terminating health insurance and slashing benefits, like home care and mental health services, for low-income seniors, kids, veterans, people with disabilities, and working families.
  • Mark the largest cut to SNAP, which provides critical food assistance for low-income families, in American history
  • Put 27,000 grocery stores at risk of closure due to a massive loss in revenue, creating and exacerbating food deserts in largely rural areas.

New Center for Community Nutrition

Image

Rep. Norcross and local officials at the groundbreaking of the Mary Ann Wardlow Center for Community Nutrition in 2023.

No one should have to worry about if they can feed their families. That is why I fought to secure $475,000 in federal funding for the new Mary Ann Wardlow Center for Community Nutrition. This center is a vital step forward in our ongoing efforts to tackle food insecurity, which continues to impact thousands of families across South Jersey.

While Trump and Republicans in Congress are working to cut food assistance programs, South Jersey is doing the opposite. We’re investing in programs that will help those who are struggling to put food on the table. The new center will expand access to healthy meals, support home-delivered nutrition services, and provide critical support to the residents who need it most. I’ll keep fighting at every level to make sure that every South Jersey family has the security and dignity that comes with knowing where their next meal is coming from.

Traveling this summer?

Image

As we head into the busy summer travel season, my office wants to share some travel reminders with you:

  • Starting earlier this month, you will need a REAL ID or another federally accepted form of identification, such as a U.S. Passport, to board domestic flights and enter certain federal buildings.
  • Even if your passport is valid now, if it expires within six months of the time you will be traveling, you should consider renewing it now. Many countries require passports to have at least six months validity remaining in order to enter. Check travel.state.gov/destination to see what your destination requires.
  • Before traveling internationally, check what your health insurance plan includes and get travel health insurance to cover any unexpected medical emergencies.
  • If your passport is lost or stolen abroad, contact the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate for assistance. Look up their contact info at usembassy.gov/
If you need to fly and do not have an up-to-date U.S. Passport, our office may be able to assist you.   Please remember that passport appointments are only accepted within two weeks of a travel date and aren’t always guaranteed.  It is best to apply for or renew your passport at least 3 to 6 months before you plan to travel.  If you need assistance, you can fill out this Privacy Release Form so our team can begin trying to assist you.
