John,
Trump’s billionaire tax cuts aren’t just unfair, they’re a threat to democracy.
Donald Trump and his Republican allies are racing to lock in permanent tax cuts for billionaires -- a move that would concentrate even more power in the hands of the ultra-wealthy, while working families face rising costs, broken infrastructure, and underfunded schools.
This isn’t just about tax rates. It’s about who gets heard in our democracy. When the richest 1% keep hoarding more wealth -- and with it, more influence -- the voices of everyday Americans are drowned out. The Trump tax cuts would supercharge this dangerous imbalance, rapidly accelerating our slide from democracy into oligarchy.
For decades, the wealthiest elites have gamed the system -- slashing their own tax obligations while lobbying for policies that leave the rest of us behind. Now, Trump’s $4 trillion in proposed cuts would make those policies permanent, locking in inequality for generations to come.
But here’s the good news: the public is waking up. New polling shows that 70% of Republican voters -- and 90% of Democrats -- want higher taxes on the rich. Even conservative lawmakers are starting to feel the pressure. We can stop this giveaway -- but only if we act now.
Tell Congress: Reject the Trump tax scam. Don’t hand our democracy over to billionaires.
Now the GOP is starting to make concessions to their MAGA base. Trying to get their bill to add up, House Speaker Mike Johnson just announced a slight reduction of their massive proposed tax cuts -- from $4.5 trillion to $4 trillion. And Trump is reportedly pushing for a higher top tax rate for those making over $2.5 million a year, from 37% to 39.6%.
But Trump’s proposed tax cuts for billionaires and multi-millionaires still represent a huge transfer of wealth from the rest of us to the wealthiest 1%. None benefit more than the billionaires, who represent one in a million Americans -- that’s just 0.0001%, but they control 3.8% of the nation’s wealth. This means that the 800 billionaires in the U.S. hold a greater share of wealth than the bottom 50% of American families.
It’s clear Republicans are feeling the heat, but they’re still not addressing billionaires’ main income sources: their investments. And they’re certainly not considering a tax on wealth. Yet.
The more wealth billionaires control, the less power the rest of us have. If we want a functioning democracy, we must stop governing in service of the ultra-rich.
Tell your lawmakers: No more billionaire tax cuts. It’s time to invest in working people and rebuild a government that truly serves everyone -- not just the few.
Thank you for standing up for a democracy that works for all, not just the wealthy elite.
