*SUPREME COURT RULES 7-2 TO RESTORE REP. LIBBY’S VOTE*
House Republican Leaders praised today’s presumptive 7-2 U.S. Supreme Court ruling ordering the Maine legislature to count the votes of Rep. Laurel Libby (R-Auburn) who was censured by House Democrats for exercising her first amendment rights on the issue of biological males competing in girls’ sports.
House Republicans have expressed their displeasure with the censure in a variety of ways for months, with House Democrats rejecting calls to restore Rep. Libby’s Constitutional rights.
“House Republicans stood united in opposing what we knew was an unconstitutional expulsion by the Democrats and today we stand vindicated by the Supreme Court’s decision to restore Representative Libby’s vote in the House,” said House Republican Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham.
“In addition to the voices of the girls in our state, House Democrats thought they could also take away the voice of a duly elected female legislator. Unfortunately it takes a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court to restore Constitutional rights and fairness,” said Assistant House Republican Leader Katrina Smith (R-Palermo).
