Across the country, families are paying more for child care than they do for college tuition. In fact, for two kids in center-based care, the cost is now more than the average rent in all 50 states.
That’s not just unfair—it’s unsustainable.
That’s why I introduced the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit Enhancement Act, a bill that would increase the maximum child care credit by nearly 400%—from $1,050 to $4,000 for one child, and from $2,100 to $8,000 for two or more kids. It would also expand eligibility to more low- and middle-income families, make the credit refundable, and ensure it keeps up with inflation.
We can’t keep asking working parents to choose between paying their bills and paying for care.
