This is a really serious problem.

Despite the last four months of absolute chaos and harm under Donald Trump and the Republican party’s rule, approval ratings for the Democratic party have remained in the gutter. And this connects back to why we lost the Presidency last November.

The working class of America has lost faith in our party. People have lost faith in our ability to look out for their basic needs, and deliver results that actually impact their life.

So much so that many prefer the GOP: A pro-billionaire, anti-worker political movement that has worked for over 50 years to help big corporations and the ultra-rich at the expense of regular Americans and the rights and public services they rely on.

I think it’s better to face this problem head on and address it rather than ignore it and hope that voters will change their mind as Trump tears down our democracy.

Friend, the progressive movement that I have helped organize for my entire time in politics is one that is firmly rooted in lifting up the working class and all Americans.

We support unions. We support raising wages. We support everyone having the healthcare, housing, and education they need. We support cracking down on corporate price gouging and protecting consumers from scammers on Wall Street. And we support these ideas without hesitation or deference to billionaire donors who only want to make themselves even richer.

If we are going to start winning back voters and convincing them of our vision, we have to offer something completely different from the status quo, not more of the same.

We have to be proud of our bold, progressive (and yes, pragmatic) ideas, and speak directly to the working families in this country who are struggling to get by and see Trump as a way to desperately try something new.
